No Ordinary Joe

'All sorts of labels are put on my brother but that doesn't mean he's any one thing. At the end of the day, they're just words. A pile of letters pooled together.'

No Ordinary Joe, published by Little Island Books in 2021 is a children’s novel inspired by my experiences growing up with a brother with special needs.

A moving middle-grade story inspired by the author's adventures with her youngest brother.

Joe loves chips and music and ice cream and running away. He doesn't mean to run away – he's just running.

Life with Joe is lots of fun but it's hard work too. You have to remember to lock the windows, hide the sugar, shut the gate. But somehow, Joe always ends up with jam in his hair or missing one of his shoes.

But this is no ordinary Joe. He has a secret superpower. The power to make everyone love him.

Horses Hooves CD

Horses Hooves is a collaborative CD of music and poetry with musicians from Ireland and UK. It gave me an opportunity to play with rhythm, voice and spoken word. Often when I attended courses and workshops for music facilitation, we would hold impromptu performances in the evenings. These were always extremely fun, inspiring events bursting with creativity and innovation. This CD was born out of that playful, creative energy. To explore the interweaving of spoken poetry with instruments as varied as the hang drum and the saxophone, to risk imperfection and do it for the sheer joy. I’m very grateful to all the musicians who gave their time and energy to make this a wonderful experience.
