Teething is a natural childhood process. Some children sail through it while others struggle terribly. Many children suffer with drooling, pain, earaches, bad temper and general malaise for each pearly, white nugget. Homeopathy can provide much needed support and pain relief for those children who find teething a difficult process.
The most commonly used remedy for pain and discomfort in teething is Chamomilla, from the Chamomile herb.
Chamomilla is well indicated when there is great pain with anger and discomfort. A child needing Chamomilla will often be clingy and bad tempered; asking for things then throwing them away. They may also have the classic appearance of one red cheek one pale. Chamomilla can relieve the pain of earaches and other ailments that come on with teething.
For children who suffer more with sore bottoms and sour nappies there are other remedies such as Calc Carb which may be useful. Calc Carb is homeopathic calcium and eases the teething and developmental process often bringing on teeth more rapidly when they are slow to appear.
The biochemical tissue salts are natural minerals our bodies need to grow and function in homeopathic form. Examples are Silica, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron and Sodium. These can be given homeopathically during childhood, to build immunity and support the healthy development of bones and teeth.
There is a combination of tissue salts specifically recommended for teething and early childhood, this is available in most health food shops or can be ordered in if you request it.
Chamomilla is also available widely in the form of ‘ Teetha’. Teetha contains a very low dose of Chamomilla and if it helps but the child still struggles it may be worth enquiring about a higher dose, available in some health food shops or from a practicing Homeopath.
For treatment of ongoing health issues related to teething such as recurring ear aches, coughs or other problems a consultation with a licensed homeopath can be very helpful for finding which specific remedies may be useful for your child during this time.
