Spring is a great time of year for de-cluttering, clearing and cleansing. This can be your house and your body! There are many simple ways of cleansing and detoxing to improve health and wellbeing.
Here are some simple, cost effective ways to begin:
Eat more raw foods, green foods, salads and soups to build good vitality and improve health. Adding one raw food e.g. a raw carrot on the side or some green salad leaves, to your lunch or dinner will generate healthy enzymes and improve digestive health.
Try cooking vegetarian 2 days a week to cut down on animal fats and give your digestive system an easier time.
Try less tea, coffee, sugar and processed food – keep your diet as fresh as possible as much as you can.
Drink plenty of water and try replacing some of your usual tea breaks with herbal teas or other alternatives.
Drink fresh vegetable and fruit juices. Drinking one juice a day is great. Some people do simple juice fasts for one day or up to 3 days to give the body a chance to cleanse and rest.
Adding a small amount of apple cider vinegar (1tsp-1tbsp) to a glass of warm water daily (usually first thing in the morning) can improve digestion, lower blood sugar levels and protect against infections.
Nettle tea – Nature’s best detox and kidney support! You can pick them from your garden or wild places nearby, the ultimate low cost detox. Nettle leaf contains high levels of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and beta-caroteneand high amounts of the vitamins A, C, D, and B complex. I use a cafetiere and let the nettles sit for 30 minutes – 1 hour infused in boiling water, then drink it as a tonic throughout the day.
If you have a problem with a specific organ and are looking for a more focused cleanse or health support, homeopathy can help:
There are many homeopathic remedies with an affinity for particular organs and these can be taken in low potency over weeks or months to build up immunity and overcome difficulties. For example:
Chelodonium is a wonderful liver/gall bladder remedy and may improve liver function, cleansing and digestion.
Berberis is a superb kidney tonic and may help strengthen the kidneys, promote healthy uric acid levels and reduce problems such as kidney stones.
Hydrastis drains the liver, gall bladder and the intestines and helps the body get rid of excess mucus. Hydrastis is also a wonderful remedy for the cervix and may be helpful if you are concerned about cervical health.
For these and other health concerns, homeopathic remedies are prescribed and supervised by a practising Homeopath.
